
Franklin County Children's Art Show
The Franklin
County Children's Art Show, open to all children living in Franklin County,
will continue this Friday through Sunday, January 29th throuth
31st. All schools in Franklin County have participated and submitted art work
from the students grades K - 12. The works submitted will be shown from 1-3 PM at the Lavonia Cultural Center. Over 250 pictures will be displayed. Ribbons
have been presented to the top three winners in each category and there will be
"Best in Show" and "Honorable Mention" given by the Judges.

Moose host Time Travelers
The Lavonia
Moose Lodge is hosting Time Travelers, Jan. 30. The music begins at 8:30 p.m.; a $5 cover charge will be collected. The
kitchen is open from 6-8:30 p.m. Wings and burgers are featured on
Thursdays from 5:30-8:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 6-8:30 p.m., Friday is Spud and Mark's steaks and
fish dinners from 5:30-8 p.m. Karaoke is held every Thursday and
Friday.
Valentine
Event Sponsored by Lavonia Pilot Club
Join us for this
fun event Sunday, February 7, from 1-4 pm at the Community Center in Lavonia. Refreshments
will be served. A vase of roses and bracelet will be raffled off for $1 a
ticket or 6 tickets for $5. Take your valentine out for an afternoon on the town!
Proceeds will help fund a defibrillator for the Franklin County High School.

Credit Union meeting
The Stephens-Franklin
Teachers Federal Credit Union annual meeting is Jan. 30 in the Stephens County Middle School cafeteria; barbecue will be served at noon. Door prizes to be awarded include a TV,
laptop computer and cash.

States Cooperative - Royston Service membership meeting
Southern States
Cooperative, Inc. - Royston Service is holding their annual membership meeting
Feb. 6 at 345 Church St., Royston. Membership day activities
begin at 10 a.m. with the business meeting at noon. Following a theme of “Will Your
Customers Recommend You?,” the Cooperative's management will use the meeting to
report on both local and company-wide operations, as well as projected budget
results for next year. Local board members will be elected, and retiring board members
will be recognized. Board nominees include Russ Moon and Stan O'Bannon.

The Pilot Club
of Lavonia is hosting a Valentine event, “Sweeten Your Valentine” Feb. 7 from 1-4 p.m. at the Lavonia Community Center. Eat-in or take-home items include cake-by-the
slice, $1; punch, $1, and other goodies like brownies, cookies and more. Surprise
your sweetheart with a vase of roses or dainty bracelet, items being raffled at
$1 per ticket, or 6 for $5 and 12 for $10. You need not be present to win. Raffle
tickets are available from any member of the Pilot Club or Lavonia Chamber of

Free Food
for Qualifying Residents
The Lavonia
Presbyterian Church, in partnership with the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia, is distributing free food to all
qualifying residents of Hart and Franklin Counties, Feb. 11 at 9 a.m. in the church parking lot. Residents may
qualify if their income is less than $1,127 monthly for households with one
person. The qualifying income requirements for families of
more than one is the same $1,127 plus an additional $390 for each
additional household member. This event will be held on a first come, first
served basis and will be held rain or shine.

reminded to enter the area by using the following directions:
From
the intersection of Hwys. 59 and 17, at the traffic light in
downtown Lavonia, continue north on Hwy. 17 (Jones Street) to the Fairview
Baptist Church; turn right at the church, cross the railroad track onto E. Main
and turn right/south to the stop sign at Thomas Street. Follow directions from
law enforcement or church personnel to the church parking lot. For additional

The Franklin County Learning Center, sponsored by Step of Faith Outreach, Inc., offers

Thursday; Tutoring in math and reading: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday for grades
K-5 from 4-5 p.m., grades 6-8 from 5-6 p.m., and grades 9-12 from 7-8 p.m.; GED
program (using the Athens Tech GED test): Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, 6-8 p.m.;
Parenting/nurturing classes (through Hart Partners): Tuesday, 6-8 p.m.; and

MOPS:
Mothers
of Preschoolers (MOPS) of Franklin and Stephens Counties meets the second
Tuesday of each month at Tom's Creek Baptist Church from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Mothers
of children between the ages of 0-5 years share in the struggles and joys of
motherhood and enjoy speakers, crafts, food, games and fun fellowship.

Medicare answers:
Attention
Medicare beneficiaries and/or their caregivers. Georgia Cares regional program,
part of Legacy Link Area Agency on Aging, will be at the Franklin County Senior Center on the
fourth Tuesday of each month to answer questions about Medicare programs. If
you need assistance with a specific medicare problem,
bring any related correspondence with you to the senior center from 10-11 a.m., 6885 Hwy. 145, Carnesville.
Starfish Learning Center:
The Starfish Learning Center in Royston and the Lavonia after School Learning Center are now
open. The Lavonia center is open on Wednesdays from 4-6
p.m. at the Fairview Missionary Baptist Church on Jones St. The
Royston center, located in the Gaines Community Room, is open Monday, Tuesday
and Thursday, 4-5 p.m. for
elementary, 6-7 p.m. for middle
school, and 7-8 p.m. for high

AA:
Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), meets every Thursday 8 p.m. at the

America's Boating Course
Golden Corner Lakes Sail and Power Sqaudron
is hosting America's Boating Course, Feb. 15 and 18; and
Feb. 22 and 25 at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Office, Hwy 29 at the Dam. You
are asked to arrive at 6:30 p.m. Monday to register, complete paperwork
and obtain class materials; classes begin at 7 p.m. Final exam will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, March 1. Topics include: safety
equipment, anchoring, trailering; navigation rules
and aids, government and local regulations, how to handle emergencies, PWC
operations, and more. Cost for materials is $30 ($35 for two persons sharing a
